What is Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan?
First it is important to understand that Soo Bahk Do is the Art and Moo Duk Kwan is the style. Soo Bahk Do is the technical side, and the Moo Duk Kwan is the philosophical side of "Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan." The name "Bahk" originated in the age of Chun Chu (2700 years ago) according to the Moo Yei Dobo Tong Ji, which is one of the oldest records of Korea’s martial arts. Soo Bahk Do (combat with bare hands and feet) is the only Korean martial art handed down from the Ko Ku Ryo Dynasty, thereby making it the oldest Korean martial art (approx. 2,000 years old)
What is Edelweiss?
Where does the term ‘Edelweiss’ come from? In German, it means ‘noble white’, which refers to the white Do Bok (uniform) as worn during the Ko Ku Ryu Dynasty more than 2000 years ago. ‘Edelweiss’ is also the term for a rugged mountain flower found in the Alps. This is a flower that can survive on its own under very harsh conditions. It is not spoiled, so it savors every bit of water and sun. It has very sure footing, so it can grow and flourish with a solid foundation. Because it nourishes itself gradually, over time with pure ingredients, it is beautiful and surrounds itself with reliable friends. It represents the soul in each of us that lives a pure, moral, simple life; the soul that seeks to escape the commercialized, profit-driven, ends justify the means, immediate gratification society we live in today.
